Abstract: Ribovirine (I-D-ribofuranosyl-1,2,4-triazol-3-carboxamide) possesses the distinct antiviral action against many strains of RNA- and DNA-containing viruses. Data on the effect of ribovirine on the synthesis of cellular macromolecules are presented. After treatment with ribovirine the synthesis of cellular RNA was inhibited by 80-85%. The synthesis of DNA and proteins was decreased less distinctly. The experiments were carried out using the primary tryptic-treated culture of fibroblasts from chicken embryos.
