Change in the nonesterified fatty acid makeup of Shigella flexneri No. 15172 type 3a in the process of passage on developing chick embryos

Abstract: Composition of nonesterified fatty acids/NEFAj from Shigella Flexneri was similar to that from other Gram-negative bacteria of the enteritic group. At the same time, NEFA of the dysenteric bacteria contained comparatively high amount of branched and cyclopropane-bearing fatty acids. Adaptation of Shigella Flexneri in the medium of developing chicken embryo led to a distinct increase in total NEFA content as well as of cyclopropane-bearing and saturated fatty acids in the bacteria and to a decrease in content of branched-chain and unsaturated fatty acids. Total content of NEFA and of unsaturated fatty acids was increased, but their qualitative composition became poor in amnions of developing chicken embryons under conditions of their infection with the Shigella.
