Abstract: Content of prostacyclin and thromboxane was studied in blood plasma of patients with ischemic heart disease after single administration of calcium antagonist diltiazem. The drug caused an increase in content of prostacyclin and in the ratio prostacyclin/thromboxane. Diltiazem appears to differently affect the arachidonic acid metabolism in platelets and endothelial cells that may be involved in therapeutic effect of the drug under conditions of ischemic heart disease.
