Abstract: Importance of free radical oxidation in development of age-dependent dystrophy of retina was studied. The newly developed hypothesis of the disease pathogenesis suggests that an increase in the rate of photosensitized free radical oxidation occurred in retina tissue due to a deficiency in reduction equivalents in these patients as well as to a lack of exogenous antioxidants. Complexes of vitamins-antioxidants were advanced for treatment of the patients with sclerotic maculodystrophy.
