Abstract: The reaction of acetaldehyde with thioalcohols, Mesna (monothiol) and Unithiol (vicinal dithiol) was investigated by infrared spectroscopy. Unithiol was more active in the reaction of acetaldehyde fixation than Mesna. This property may explain high efficiency of peroral administration of Unithiol for treatment of postalcoholic intoxication (hangover).
