Mechanism of impairment of energy metabolism in respiratory muscles in experimental botulism

Phase alterations in content of adenylic nucleotides were observed in muscular and nervous tissues in dynamics of botulinic intoxication in rats. Experiments with administration of 4-aminopyridine and alpha-tocopherol showed that a decreased rate of mediator liberation in cholinergic synapses and activation of lipid peroxidation were apparently responsible for impairments in energy metabolism.
