Effects of p-hydroxybenzoic and 3,4-dihydroxybenzoic acids on incorporation of I-14C-acetate into ubiquinone, sterols and nonsaponifiable lipid fraction were studied in liver slices. Inhibition of the label incorporation into all the isoprenoid-containing compounds studied was found, when these phenolic acids were used at I mM and higher concentrations. At the same time, inhibition of the ubiquinone biosynthesis was especially distinct although concentration of the substance was increased in mixtures in presence of phenolic acids as compared with controls.
