Hormonal regulation of the adenylate cyclase activity was studied in tumors of rectum and colon. A relative increase in sensitivity of the enzyme to inappropriate stimulators (especially to calcitonin) and lowering of the adenylate cyclase response in presence of more specific effectors (glucagon) were observed in 35-40% cases of these tumors. The positive correlation was found between the frequency of adenylate cyclase response and the content of cholesterol and its fractions in the tumor tissues. Possible hormone-dependent mechanisms in the tumor tissues are discussed.
