The effect of erythrocyte membrane modification on the rate of O2 release

Specific patterns of blood deoxygenation were studied using cholesterol-modified erythrocyte membranes by means of polarographic coulombometry in microlyzer. The rate of oxygen liberation was decreased in erythrocytes enriched with cholesterol as compared with controls. Effects of the membrane quantitative composition on its diffusion properties are discussed.
