Data on the synthesis of platelet-activating factor (PAF) and it's natural analogues by mononuclear phagocytes, PAF-receptor expression in these cells and PAF action on monocytes and macrophages are summarized. Special attention is paid to the biochemical events during processes named above. Considered phenomena are evaluated as important parts of total organism defence system.
