The comparative antithrombotic activity of superoxide dismutse and chondroitin sulfatein the form of covalent or noncovalent complexes was studied on the rat arterialthrombosis induced by treatment of vessel with ferrous chloride solution. The covalentconjugate between superoxide dismutase and chondroitin sulfate has been shown to exert thehighest antithrombotic effect. The higher antithrombotic activity of covalent conjugate isstipulated by its coupling on the glycocalyx of vascular wall and by the stability of thecovalent bond between superoxide dismutase subunits and chondroitin sulfate.
