The levels of free radical production, malone dialdehyde concentrationand antioxidant activity were estimated in ventricular liquor of the infants with primaryhydrocephalus. It was shown that even in the case of uncomplicated hydrocephalussignificant disorders in brain metabolism took place. In the patients with inflammatory orhemorrhagic complications the levels of malone dialdehyde and free radicals were markedlyincreased as compared to the infants with "pure" hydrocephalus. The mostsignificant disorders were revealed in the case of hemorrhagic complications. These dataindicate the necessity of lipid peroxidation evaluation in liquor of the patients withhydrocephalus and help to workout indications for antioxidants including into the commontherapy of this decease.
