Hypoglycemic activity of taurine

Taurine which was toxic for rats as shown by means of histological and histochemical assays in chronic experiments, decreased the content of glucose in rabbit blood. Duration of the effect exceeded that of insulin. The hypoglycemic effect was also found in dogs after administration of taurine by various pathways at a dose of 1.6 mmole/kg.
